The Benue State Government has approved the procurement of both food and non food relief materials for Victims of flood disasters in the state.

The Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Hon. Emmanuel Shior disclosed this today in Makurdi during a coordination meeting with Humanitarian Agencies, NGOs and other humanitarian partners at the Conference Hall of Makurdi local government.

Hon. Shior further pointed out that the essence of the coordination meetings was to come together and appraise the various roles being played by humanitarian partners towards bringing succor to the Internally Displaced persons in various camps across the state,as well as efforts towards preparedness and mitigation of impending flood in the state.

He expressed appreciation to Christian Aid for their support in the procurement of materials, like flood related kits, mattresses, and other domestic utensils, and wares among others.

In his contribution, the general manager of Urban Development Board, Evangelist Abrahams Gbilekaa said that the Board has served over 500 demolition notices to developers in the state with the aim of commencing demolition of the illegal structures across the state especially the ones on water ways in no distant time.

Rev. Gbilekaa called for synergy among humanitarian partners in ensuring better and coordinated services for the IDPs, as well as flood victims in the state.

Other humanitarian partners including, Federal Fire Service, Doctors without Borders, Community Links, World Health Organization, Red Cross, Good Health Living, Bengonet, CSOs among others were in attendance.

The representatives of the various humanitarian partners variously expressed the need for synergy in flood preparedness and mitigation, as well as result oriented interventions in the plight of the Internally Displaced persons in the state.
